Bayesian inference
Course information
Class STA422 in the Biostatistics master program, Spring semester 2012
Instructors:
Dr. Andrea Riebler and Steven Geinitz
Time and venue:
- Class: Tuesday, 13:15 - 15:00
- Exercises: Tuesday, 15:15 - 16:00, starting February 28
Institute for Social and Preventive Medicine, Division of Biostatistics, Hirschengraben 84, Room F05.
Exam:
Date and time: June 19th, 2012, 13:00 - 15:00.
Location: Campus Irchel, Y27 H12.
Contents:
This lecture gives an overview about Bayesian inference and illustrates its
application in the field of Biostatistics.
Topics include inference, numerical methods, Markov chain Monte Carlo, integrated nested Laplace approximations, model choice and computational aspects.
Exercises:
- Exercises will be of mixed type: theoretical questions to be solved with paper and pencil will be complemented with tasks that need programming in R.
- New exercises will be distributed every week for the following week.
- Additionally, each student must present the solution of an exercise on the blackboard once during the semester.
