Master Program in Biostatistics

Curriculum

The required 90 credit points (CP) have to be gained from compulsory modules (Pflichtmodule) and elective modules (Wahlmodule). Note that one CP corresponds to approximately 30 hours of work. The following table shows the detailed minimal requirements.

Compulsory modules:
- Coursework 38 CP
- Master’s thesis 30 CP
- Master’s exam 3 CP
Elective modules 19 CP

Duration

The study duration of a 90 CP master program is in general three semesters. For this programs this consists of two semesters of course work followed by approximately six months for the master thesis. If a student has additional requirements to fulfill, the master program usually takes four or more semesters. Furthermore, part-time study is possible.

Minor

The master program Biostatistics (90 CP) can also be combined with any minor (30 CP) from this list, except for Applied Probability and Statistics.

Language

All compulsory modules and almost all of the elective statistical modules are taught in English, some additional statistical courses and some of the possible elective modules may only be offered in German. There will always be enough modules taught in English to obtain the required 90 CP without knowing German. It is required that prospective students have a good working knowledge in English, some proof of an international C1 language level (see here for equivalent certificates) needs to be given when applying.
